Into my head. I remember my deadlines. Into the calendar, when I get a minute. Into a system with a backup reminder, every time, same day.

2. An attorney asks for the status of a file you have not touched in a month.

I stall while I dig through the file. I can piece it together in a few minutes. I answer from my notes in under a minute.

3. Could a competent paralegal cover your desk for a week from your notes alone?

Not a chance. My desk lives in my head. Mostly, with a lot of phone calls to me. Yes. It is written down and current.

4. When the docket gets heavy, how do you decide what comes first?

Whoever is loudest gets helped first. I triage by deadline, roughly. I have a priority system and my attorneys know it.

5. How often do you work evenings or weekends to catch up?

Most weeks. It is just part of the job. During trial season or heavy months. Rarely. The system catches up for me.

6. When did you last ask for a raise with evidence in hand?

Never. I would not know what to point to. I have asked, but without numbers. I track my numbers and I have used them.

7. Who taught you the job you do today?

Nobody. I guessed my way here. Bits and pieces from coworkers over the years. A real mentor showed me, and it shows.
